The structure of chapter 1 is simple: introduction (vv. 1–2), burnt offerings of bulls (vv. 3–9), burnt offerings of sheep and goats (vv. 10–13), and burnt offerings of birds (vv. 14–17). Since we have discussed the matters growing out of 1:1–2 in the Introduction, we will move directly to the first of the five types of sacrificial offerings: the burnt offering.
